Once accepted into the program, repairs can take up to one year to be completed. Habitat MontDelco performs repairs with a budget under $15,000. Homeowners pay a portion of the cost of their repair based on a sliding scale. Habitat MontDelco charges the homeowner between 2%-10% of the cost of the project based on his/her income, offering payment plans to stretch larger payments over the course of several months. In FY 2015, the average cost to homeowners was $859.
Examples of past repairs include roofs, porches, heaters, electrical, plumbing, grab bars and wheel chair ramps. Homeowners are also required to perform “sweat equity” in addition to making monthly payments. Individualized sweat equity plans are created for each homeowner’s capabilities but typically involves assisting with the repair, spreading awareness of Habitat’s programs, or volunteering in Habitat MontDelco’s office or ReStore. Habitat makes specific accommodations for the disabled and elderly.

- Be a homeowner in Montgomery County or Delaware County
- Be unable to afford and/or perform the needed repairs
- Make between 20%-80% of median income for (Montgomery or Delaware County) based on household size
- Be current on all mortgage and property tax payments
- Have a current homeowner’s insurance policy
- Be able to afford a portion of the cost of the repair
